Notes
- Christopher Costner's Civil War compiled service record1 indicates he died of "Typhoid Febris" in the "South Carolina Hospital" in Petersburg, Va.,
on July 16, 1862 as a private in Company K of the 49th N. C. Regiment.
An online search performed in June 2011 of the surname Costner in the records of the
Blandford Cemetery
of Petersburg, Virginia returned the
following record
which indicates that a "C. Costner" of Company K, 49th North Carolina Regiment was buried in
the "Memorial Hill" section of the cemetery.
I have not visited Blandford Cemetery, but understand Memorial Hill to be a mass grave
where 30,000 Confederate soldiers were buried:
- The
Cleveland County Index to Vital Statistics
lists the death of a Margaret Costner
of Township #11 with a date of Feb 13, 1926 (her tombstone indicates Feb 13, 1925!).
The name of her parent is listed as Lewis Bryant. A reference is listed to Book 9, page 438.
(Reminder: Try to obtain an actual copy of the death certificate to see if it provides more information.)
